In his unwavering commitment to build a safer KwaZulu-Natal, Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli took the fight against crime to academic institutions, where incidents of gender-based violence and femicide are rampant. To this end, Premier Ntuli convened a brainstorming session with the ICT sector which will culminate in the launch of a GBV-F digital App which will go a long way in curbing crime, GBV-F at higher learning institutions. The brainstorming session was held at the Durban University of Technology, Ritson Campus, on Thursday 13 March 2025.
The app will be a crucial tool in strengthening the province’s efforts against GBVF by improving access to emergency assistance, legal support, and awareness campaigns.
This initiative is in response to the declaration by the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, who has recognized Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) as a national pandemic due to their alarming increase.
The launch underscores the Provincial government’s commitment to utilizing technology to create safer communities and ensure swift intervention in GBVF cases.
