The Kwazulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli In His Capacity As The Executive Authority Of The Department Of Community Safety And Liaison Alongside The Head Of Ministry, Mr Vuyani Mbesa And The Head Of The Department, Ms Glen Xaba-Makhetha Held A Meeting With Uthukela District Community Safety Structures, On Tuesday, 4 February 2025 In The Capital City Of The Province.
UThukela is one of the districts where Community is terrorised by crime that includes multiple murders and Stock-theft in the main.
Amangwe community caught Premier Ntuli’s attention following the brutal murder of the five members of the community safety structures on Sunday, 27 October 2024 during the ceremonial celebration in the Mazibuko homestead.
The Premier’s visit in the area followed by a Crime Fighting Imbizo held on 25 November 2024, established that people were terrified and reluctant to raise their hands to partake in the fight against crime, fearing they might be easy targets. The Department of Community Safety and Liaison’s officials in the district, worked tirelessly educating and convinced them otherwise.
The engagement resolved that these members of the community safety structures need to be trained so that they will be useful to both the police and the community they serve.
Premier Ntuli applauded their braveness to stand and their eagerness to be counted in the fight against crime, not only in uThukela but to the rest of the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
