The Department of Community Safety and Liaison hosted a Departmental Women’s Empowerment event with the intention of celebrating fe.ale employees and for team building purposes. The event was coordinated by the Departmental Women’s Forum chaired by Ms Nosisa Blankenburg, who’s the Director of Risk Management Unit.
Ms Funi Makhanya, who’s the Chief Director for the Corporate Management Directorate, welcomed and encouraged ladies to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. She also encouraged everyone to utilize the services of Employment, Health and Wellness because work can be straining and therefore affects performance.
In closing the HOD, Ms. Glen Xaba Makhetha appreciated everyone in attendance, saying, ” Today we are all equal. I am not here for reports, but we are gathered to know each other better. ”
Even in a workplace issues affecting women are real,as the department we must not shy away and ignore those because they negatively affect officials and their work performance. Some of the issues that are brought into my attention include:
• Creation of a platform for women to express themselves and those that are in management to pave a way for other women who also aspire to be in management by means of coaching and mentoring.
• Provision of space to review progress made within the Public Service, in targeted women empowerment initiatives and achievements in gender equality for the Department.
The two great guest speakers, Dr. Thuthukile Goba and Ms. Sindy Mbizana both spoke on the importance of taking care of a woman physical and mental life in a healthy way.
