KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, will on Friday 22 November 2024 lead a Crime Fighting Imbizo at Osizweni Community Hall, Ward 11, Newcastle Local Municipality, with the main objective of intensifying the war against crime in the area and the District of Amajuba.
The Premier, collaborating with the Justice Crime Prevention and security (JCPS) cluster, has resolved to heighten government’s crime prevention and combating interventions to ease the plight of the community of Osizweni.
Osizweni and parts of Madadeni, Utretcht and Dannhauser are terrorised by gangsterism, rampant use of drug and substance abuse and violent crimes. The department of Community Safety and Liaison, voluntary crime fighting structures and law enforcement have worked tirelessly to eradicate the scourge of crime in these areas and to create safer living conditions for all community members.
The Honourable Premier will on Monday, 25 November 2024 hold another Crime Fighting Imbizo at Nyezane area in Langalibalele Local Municipality, uThukela District. This comes after several mass killings in the district, some related to stock theft. On 29 October 2024, Premier Ntuli visited the families of the deceased in Nyezane, following the brutal murder of five people and made a commitment that he will return in a form of Imbizo.
The Crime Fighting Izimbizo will also afford the Premier an opportunity to articulate provincial government’s plans to introduce lasting solutions to the plight of farm dwellers, especially at Normandien and other surrounding areas and so are the people of Loskop and the surrounding areas.
The Honourable Premier will kick-start these Izimbizo by convening a stakeholders’ engagement with JCPS cluster representatives, voluntary crime prevention structures, business fraternity representatives and local government representatives with the view to strengthen relations between government, law enforcement and the communities of both Amajuba and uThukela Districts.
