The Department is aligning itself with the Premier’s strategic focus on fight the GBVF in the province, as a result a GBVF champion will be appointed at a head office for coordination and mobilizing partners to ensure effective implementation of the programme. The Department intends to implement the following projects under this programme:
– “Don’t Be Quiet About GBV&F” (Focused Campaigns )
The aim of the project is to create network in raising awareness about GBV and its impact, and challenge harmful gender norms. The department will partner with local community organizations, community safety structures, schools, and religious institutions to conduct workshops, seminars, and outreach programs. As part of victim empowerment, educational initiatives will be conducted through public using local radio stations, social media, community gatherings, faith-based gatherings on identifying signs of GBV, understanding legal rights, and how to seek help.
– Gender Based Violence (GBV&F) Activists
This is an EPWP project which facilitate and implement intergovernmental co-operation on safety matters particularly on issues pertaining GBV&F. Further conduct ongoing interaction with citizens in the manner contemplated by Section 206 of the Constitution, the CSPS Act and WPSS. Also enhance the quality and accessibility of safety programmes through improved participation by the community. The project also facilitates pro-active and interventionist crime prevention models in communities in relation to GBV. The activist will be working with stakeholders such as SAPS, DSD, NPO/ NGO, Safety Structures (Community Policing Forum and Youth Desk (CPF), KZN Community Crime Prevention Associations (KZN CCPA), Business against crime, Ward based gender-based violence rapid response structure, as well as any other legitimate organization championing the struggle against Gender based Violence as directed by the district Management.
