The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature’s Premier, Community Safety and Liaison Portfolio Committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Mbali Frazer, conducted an oversight visit to Ingwavuma Police Station in Jozini, under the uMkhanyakude District Municipality.
The committee engaged with the Department of Community Safety team, led by Mr. Luvuyo Goniwe, alongside key stakeholders to assess safety and security challenges in Ingwavuma. Issues raised included in-adequate police infrastructure, the use of temporary park homes as offices, shortage of vehicles, cross-border crimes such as vehicle and stock theft, and the prevalence of illegal drugs and alcohol.
Stakeholders further appealed for the construction of a new police station, as the current facility is in a state of disrepair.
