KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, has strongly condemned the brutal and senseless killing of eight individuals in uMlazi, U Section. Premier Ntuli visited the scene of the tragedy today, 17 May 2025, alongside with the Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Police for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Major General Phumelele Makoba.
Describing the incident as “barbaric and inhumane,” Premier Ntuli called for the immediate arrest of those responsibleand pledged the full support of the provincial government to assist law enforcement in their investigations. He further called on all Community Safety Structures to work closely with the police to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
During his visit, Premier Ntuli also engaged with the affected community and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He instructed the Department of Social Development to urgently provide necessary support services, including psychosocial support and counselling to those impacted.
In response to broader concerns raised by residents, Premier Ntuli committed to prioritising the improvement of living conditions in the area. This includes shelter, infrastructure, and access to basic services. The Premier announced that he would engage the Department of Human Settlements to find sustainable and amicable solutions to the community’s housing challenges.
As part of immediate interventions to enhance safety, Premier Ntuli outlined a plan to install Apollo lights and surveillance cameras in high-risk areas to deter criminal activity and protect vulnerable residents.
“No society can function under the threat of such brutal violence. We must work together – community, government, and police – to reclaim our communities from criminals,” said Premier Ntuli.
The Premier reaffirmed his commitment to building a safer, more secure KwaZulu-Natal where all citizens can live in dignity and peace.
