The Department Of Community Safety And Liaison Through The Leadership Of The Honorable Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli And The Head Of Department Ms Glen Xaba-Makhetha Met With The Executives Of Community Safety Structures To Deliberate On Issues Of Crime Affecting The Area Of Inanda, Maoti, Umlazi And Phoenix. Premier Stated That This Meeting Was Long Overdue Since Ethekwini Is Leading When It Comes To Crime Stats.
In his opening remarks, Premier stated that let us all work together to devise strategies to fight against crime and gender based violence.
The Premier commended the KZN SAPS for the sterling work that they have done throughout the province and further stated that for our community to grow, we must end poverty and fight crime.
The meeting deliberated on many contributing factors to crime and resolved as follows:
. Intelligence unit must form part of these engagement and they will be in a position to find credible information.
. More Police visibility in areas of KwaMashu, Ntuzuma, Inanda, Maoti, Phoenix and Umlazi due to high level of crime
. Premier committed that trainings for young people will be carried out by the Department of Community Safety and Liaison where training guides will be approved by him. The department of sport arts and culture will also be approached in order to form part of these trainings.
. More intelligence driven operations will be done in the province and those who are in the province illegally will be dealt with and be deported to their respective countries in collaboration with the department of Home Affairs.
. Premier further requested community crime fighting structures to furnish him with their wish list which will enables them to perform better.
. The Premier reported that there is a private sponsor who want to assist with building a forensic lab in the province to assist with the backlog the province is faced with.
