The purpose of today’s media briefing is to provide an update on the second quarter crime statistics released by the South African Police Service and to outline provincial governments plans to roll out collaborative crime fighting initiatives during the festive season and beyond.
We are also pleased to announce to the nation, provincial government’s noble cause of donating 36 vehicles worth over R14 million, these vehicles will be received by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The crime picture for the Province of KwaZulu-Natal, for the period July to September 2024 compared to July to September 2023, indicated the following:
17 COMMUNITY REPORTED SERIOUS CRIME
The 17 Community reported serious crime for the province of KwaZulu-Natal indicated a slight increase of 0.1% (+60 cases).
A total of 63666 cases were reported and 20794 persons arrested for crimes under this category.
