Durban, Friday, 20 September 2024, Minister of Police, Honourable Senzo Mchunu, his deputies Ms Polly Boshelo, Casell Mathale together with the National and Provincial Police senior Management, National Civilian Secretariat for Police Service, KZN Department of Community Safety and Liaison, Department of Transport and Human Settlement, eThekwini Municipality, CPF, PSIRA held a Ministerial Stakeholder engagement with an intention of collaborating resources as means of fighting crime.
Outlining the purpose, the National Commissioner, General Fani Masemola, was quick to caution that, the integrated plan in combating crime must not be confused with the delegation of powers in terms of law enforcement, because the Constitution of South Africa clearly stats, that rests with the South African Police Service.
All National and Provincial stakeholders sang from the one hymn book in welcoming and supporting the stance by the Minister of Police, that of a collaborated effort in the fight against crime.
Minister Mchunu, in his address said the main reason for this meeting is to allay fears from all members of our communities, “People everywhere in the country, including this city live in fear, women and children in particular, that they might be attacked, raped and killed. Crime is rife in our country. Therefore, we need to work together to restore confidence of our communities to the police and government.”
