HEAD OF DEPARTMENT PURPOSE: To monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of the police service and promote community police relations.

FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide executive support to the head of department.

2. Facilitate the effective and efficient functioning of the Provincial Secretariat for Police for the Province of KwaZulu-Natal.

3. Ensure that efficient risk and integrity management services are provided in the Department.

4. Manage and monitor the provision of Corporate Management Services.

5. To manage the co-ordination of inter-governmental relations and inter-sectoral collaboration.

6. To manage the provision of financial management services.

Risk And Integrity Management

PURPOSE: To manage the provision of risk management and internal control in the Department of Community Safety & Liaison

FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage the development, implementation of department risk, internal control policies, strategies and reporting framework.
  2. Manage the facilitation, coordination of audits to ensure the implementation of audit   recommendations thereof
  3. Manage the provision of risk management services across the department
  4. Manage the resources in the office

Security Services

PURPOSE: The Department of Community Safety and Liaison has a Security Services Directorate which aims to provide effective security management for the department.

FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop, facilitate and monitor the implementation of a Departmental Security and Risk Policies and Procedures
  2. Provide security classification and integrity vetting for the department inclusive of technical advice to the MEC, the HOD and Directors in the regarding the handling of sensitive documents
  3. Liaise and coordinate activities with SSA (State Security agency) and other security agencies and structures.
  4. Manage, audit, monitor and evaluate initiatives to ensure security of the MEC, HOD  and staff
  5. Monitor the adherence to implementation of information technology policies based on MISS.
  6. Administer and monitor the implementation of security measures, including access control.

Inter-Goverment Relation and Special Project

PURPOSE:The Department of Community Safety and Liaison has a Special Projects AND Inter-sectoral Collaboration Directorate which aims to promote corporate governance and provide strategic project support.

FUNCTIONS

The functions of this directorate include:

  1. Facilitating the establishment of the KwaZulu-Natal JCPS cluster to further strengthen intergovernmental cooperation within the criminal justice system at a provincial level.
  2. In line with the constitutional mandate to promote good relations between communities and police, implementing the Gender-based violence (GBV) , balance law enforcement with community engagement by facilitating localized safety priorities and community activism against abuse.
